A welcoming first experience
Every child learns differently. For beginning students, I use short, achievable musical goals and adapt exercises to their age, interests, and physical comfort. The focus is to make steady progress without losing the joy of playing.
A lesson might include rhythmic games, hearing and finding notes, simple melodies, chord changes, and music your child recognizes. As students grow, we can explore reading music, improvisation, and creating their own songs.
What students can explore
The lesson plan changes with experience and what the student enjoys.
- Basic technique and comfortable hand positions
- Rhythm, listening, and musical fundamentals
- Favorite songs on acoustic or electric guitar
- Chord shapes, music reading, and beginner theory
- Creative exercises, improvisation, and songwriting
Questions parents often ask
What age can a child start? It depends on the child’s attention, coordination, and enthusiasm. I’m happy to discuss what might be comfortable and realistic for your child.
Do we need to buy a guitar? A properly sized instrument helps. I can suggest what to look for before you purchase, but I don’t recommend committing to expensive gear right away.
Can lessons be in Japanese? Yes. Children and families can communicate in Japanese, English, or a combination that feels natural.
Where and how
I focus on Park Slope, Carroll Gardens, Fort Greene, Sunset Park, and nearby Brooklyn neighborhoods. Lesson location, format, and availability are discussed individually.
