GETTING STARTED

What Happens at Your First Guitar Lesson?

Nervous about the first lesson? Here is what a relaxed, practical beginning can look like, whether you are six or sixty.

We start by talking about you

I may ask what kind of music you like, whether you have played an instrument before, and what you hope to learn. There are no right answers. For children, parents can help share their goals and any preferences for communication.

We make music right away

A first lesson can include getting comfortable holding the guitar, making a clear note, listening to rhythm, or learning a short melody. If you already play, we might look at a song, chord progression, or improvisation idea you want to develop.

You should leave knowing at least one small thing you can practice on your own.

You do not need everything figured out

You do not need expensive equipment, a list of music-theory terms, or a perfect practice plan. You do need curiosity and a willingness to try.

If you are uncertain which instrument to buy or whether a specific lesson format is available, ask before your first appointment.

The next steps

After we understand your goals, we can discuss a suitable lesson rhythm and materials. Tell me about your music interests to get started.
